Bowls

Well, bowling season has started. I've re-joined Co-op Bowls Club who have two teams in the Scunthorpe TWS Printers League and one team in the Humberside Bowls Development Association triples league. Had my first game in the TWS League on Monday. It was the first time I'd played since taking a break from bowling 5 years ago!! And I must say I didn't do too bad, although the team lost the match, my rink won!

Not only have I started bowling again, flat green by the way, but in a moment of madness at the AGM, I volunteered to run the Triples Team. We played the first game yesterday and we won 6 - 2. Not a bad start.

Spotted a wasp entering my shed today. Was hoping it wasn't taking up residence, but unfortunately it is. Much as I would like to leave it and watch the development of the hive, I'm afraid it will have to go.

Messingham

Sunrise At Messingham NRHad a very early visit to MSQ on Saturday (1st May). Got there at 0500,well before sunrise, the idea being to a) enjoy the dawn chorus and b) to try to get some decent sunrise photo's. I thought the mist rising off the lakes would give the shots a nice 'atmosphere'. Whether I achieved this is open to judgement.

Moon set At Messingham NR
As the moon was showing really bright, I thought I'd try me hand at getting a shot of it, a 'Moonset', as it it were. The results weren't too bad, this being about the best of 'em.

Species seen during the morning Reed Bunting, Chaffinch, Willow Warbler, Wren, Longhorn Moth, Cucumber Spider, St Mark's Fly, Anthomyiid Fly, Chloropid Fly, a super Bee Fly, Bee Fly - Bombylius major></a>, a <a href=May Fly about to be a spiders lunch! and a Braconid Wasp ovipositing in a gorse bud.

The Bogbeans are flowering and there's a lot of Selfheal and Dog Violets around. Cowslips also abound on the reserve and I don't know why I didn't get a pic of one or the Lady's Smocks !!

I also saw a dragonfly (first I've seen this year), which I assumed would be a Hairy, but I didn't get a close enough look to positively ID it.

It was 11:30-ish when I decided to call it a day and head home, as the weather looked like it was gonna get a bit showery. I nearly missed my first Hobby of the year; it flew over the car park and I would have missed it, if Colin Pumfritt hadn't give me a shout. Thanks to Colin Pumfrett for pointing it out.
